Some
of the projects we have been involved in since our founding
in 1995 include:-
Providing a kiln for handicapped school children.
The purchase of an electric wheelchair for a "Down"
syndrome child.
Helped in the rehabilitation of a family after fire had gutted
their home
We obtained a second hand fire engine from U.K and had it shipped
and delivered to the volunteer fire brigade in Santiago del
Teide.
The Lions have funded and overseen the provision of a fast response
rescue craft to be moored in the harbour of Los Gigantes and
crewed by the police, the harbour authorities and the local
doctor. It was named Sir Stanley Mathews in memory of one of
our club's most ardent supporters.Regrettably he was no longer
with us to do the launching.
Away from Tenerife, we have sent aid to Bosnian children, as
well as aid to flood victims in mainland Spain. We have hosted,
or helped parties of handicapped children from the U.K to have
memorable holidays here in Tenerife, and indeed Canarian ones
in the U.K.
The club meets three times per month. The first Wednesday of
the month is a "Business" meeting. The second Wednesday
is the "Directors" meeting. The third Wednesday is
more of an open meeting when all friends and supporters are
welcomed. This usually has as its format a brief resume of current
business and then a chat. These chats have varied from all-in
wrestling to police dog training and have been very much a source
of fun and amusement.
Needless to say any visiting lions holidaying here will be most
welcome at the first and third Wednesdays email here: lionsclubsinternational@losgigantes.com
with the dates of your visit and where you are staying and we
will send you details of how to get to the venue.
